Margaret Jean McAndrews

          Jean McAndrews, Moscow, 96, died June 13, at home in Moscow, PA. She was the widow of Francis McAndrews who died in 1993. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1990.
         Born in Ancon, Canal Zone, daughter of the late John Kalar and Helen Turner, she was a graduate of Balboa, Canal Zone High School and the Pennsylvania State University where she majored in Music and minored in English and Spanish. She was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association. She also attended Marywood University and Bloomsburg State University.
         After graduation, she taught in Gouldsboro, VA and Chester Springs, PA, and later taught English at Scranton Central High School for 23 years. She was co-owner of Lake Hideaway, Moscow which was created by her husband and four children. She was past president of Elmhurst PTA and Moscow PTA and a member of the Elmhurst Welfare Club, the Scranton Century Club and the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church of St. Catherine of Siena in Moscow.
         Surviving are three sons, Briggs and his wife Isabelle of Sackets Harbor, NY, Brian of Scranton, PA, Dennis and his wife Elizabeth of Wayne, PA; one daughter, Helen Salamone and her husband Robert of Delmar, NY;  daughter in law, Catherine McAndrews of Moscow, PA; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. 
        She was also preceded in death by a grandson Scott McAndrews and three sisters, Olive, Harriett, and Dorothy.
       The family also is indebted to Jean’s caregivers, Jean Boam, Gloria Lanphear, and Janna Lanphear.
       The funeral will be Friday, June 17 at 11:00 am at St Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church St. Moscow with interment at St Catherine’s Cemetery. 
      Friends may call at St. Catherine of Siena Church beginning at 10:00 am.
       In lieu of flowers, Jean requested that contributions be made to the Scott McAndrews Memorial Fund, c/o Niskayuna Community Foundation, PO Box 9711, Niskayuna, NY, 12309 or Habitat for Humanity, 550 Madison Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
