Anne Griffin Vanston, Scranton, died Friday afternoon in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. Her husband of 54 years is Vincent J. Vanston.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J and Helen Mullen Griffin. She was a member of the 1952 graduating class of St. Paul’s High School and a graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing. She subsequently went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Counseling both from Marywood University. She was also a graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a nurse for the Scranton School District as well as a licensed funeral director with the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Scranton. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Parish, Scranton.
Also surviving are a daughter Kathleen Vanston, Esq and her husband Marvin Lee of Maryland; a son Vincent Jay Vanston, MD and his wife Patti of Clarks Summit; grandsons Kevin and Jason Lee; granddaughters Julia and Jenna Vanston; sisters Angela Rink and Helen Schumann both of Scranton and Jeanne Quackenbush of New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Kitsy Hart,  Lucy Pfohl and Jack Griffin.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sal Scialla, Mary Triano CRNP, Hospice of the Sacred Heart as well as the staff of the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit for their compassionate and dedicated care. The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Sacchetti and Debbie Jones for all they have done.
Anyone attending the funeral is invited to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.
Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

    I saw your mom’s obit per chance today and wanted to express my sadness for your loss. We were grade school mates ages ago at Prescott School.
    Later East Scranton, Jr. high. I wanted to express my sympathy for the loss of your mom, I do remember her and meeting your dad so many years ago.
