MARY M. KUSY

Mary Kusy,  93, a guest at Holy Family Residence, formerly of Lutherwood Community and a lifetime resident of South Side, passed away Saturday.  She was the widow of Julius S. Kusy, who died Oct. 24,1992.

Born in Scranton on Sept. 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Olechna and attended Scranton Schools.  Before retirement, she was employed for over 30 years at the Petersburg Silk Mill.  She was a devout Catholic, who prayed the Rosary daily and worshipped at the former Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in South Side, currently Saint Paul of the Cross Church.  She was a member of the After Fifty Club in South Side and very active in the Lutherwood Association, most recently as Treasurer.  She enjoyed her family, bingo and her weekly trips to Boscov’s.  Mary loved to bake, cookies to cakes, her passion was sharing the goodies with others.

Mary’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Holy Family Residence for their help, care and making Mary comfortable and “halfway to Heaven”.  A special thanks to Father Scott of Saint Paul of the Cross church for always bringing a smile to Mary’s face.

Surviving are her children, Sandra Grimm and her husband, Richard of Dunmore, Thomas Kusy and his wife, Linda of Clarks Summit and Linda Merkel and her husband, Chip of Harrisburg.  She has seven grandchildren, Melissa Merkel of West Chester, Meghan Muller of Exton, Mark Merkel, Washington, D.C., Brian Grimm of Philadelphia, Lauren Kusy of Hoboken,  NJ, Matthew Kusy of Highland Park, NJ and Ryan Kusy, a student at the University of Delaware.  Mary also has two great grandchildren Chase Muller and Connor Gorman.  She is also survived by three sisters, Stella Olechna, Anna Young and Dorothy Siekierka and three brothers Frank, Robert and Richard Olechna and several nieces and nephews,  as well as great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Fritz and Wanda Lukiewski and two brothers, Johnny and Edward Olechna.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30am in the Chapel at the Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA.

Friends  may call Monday from 4 to 7pm in the Maloney Lounge at the Holy Family Residence.

Interment, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery.

 In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Holy Family Residence 2500 Adams Ave. Scranton, Pa. 18509.

    Our heartfelt condolences go out to all those in the Kusy family today. We will never forget what a fabulous baker she was and we ALWAYS looked forward to her delicious cookies & cakes at Christmas and Easter. Mary was a very special lady who loved her friends & family dearly and she will be greatly missed.
