Gerald J. Davis

Gerald J. Davis

January 20, 2014

Gerald J. Davis, West Scranton, died Monday afternoon in the Milton Hershey Medical Center after an illness.  His wife of 48 years is the former Lynn Thomas.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harold “Bud” R. Sr. and Genevieve Jean Clark Davis.  He was a 1960 graduate of West Scranton High School and attended Wilkes University.  He was a member of the Embury United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader, on the church’s administrative board and was active in it’s choir.  Jerry was also a member of Acacia Lodge 579 F and AM, the Keystone Consistory and the Knights of Pythias.  He served in the Pa. National Guard 109th Infantry.   He had been employed by Affiliated Foods as an advertising manager and prior to retirement in 2009 he had been employed by the Maid Rite Steak Company as an administrative assistant.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.   He was the best buddy of Muffy his cat.  His greatest enjoyment was being together with family.

His strong Christian faith and love of his church led him to take courses which allowed him to become a minister and preached the Word of the Lord and administer to those friends in need.

The family would like to thank Drs. Jalowiec and Heim and their staffs as well as the staffs of the Geisinger Community Medical Center and the Milton Hershey Medical Center for the excellent care shown to Jerry.

Also surviving are daughters Sheri Morgan and her husband Thomas of Scranton and Dr. Darlene Link of Conshohocken;  grandchildren Thomas Morgan, Jr., and Kayla and Owen Link.

He was preceded in death by a brother Harold R. Davis, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with services officiated by Rev. Linda Eckersley, pastor of the Embury United Methodist Church.
