Richard Evans, lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Saturday night in the Commonwealth Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Regional Hospital of Scranton surrounded by his loving children.  He was the widower Rose Cawley.

Born in Scranton in 1937, he was the son of the late Willard and Mae Evans Evans.  He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and was a member of the Embury United Methodist Church.  During his career he was employed for over 30 years in the trucking industry while retiring in 1999 from Yellow Motor Freight as a dispatcher.  Rich was a member of the Teamsters Local 229 and also was a PIAA Football official for over 30 years.  He was one of the founding members of the West Scranton High School Football Boosters in the 1960’s.

Rich loved his family especially his grandchildren and never missed their sporting events.   He was an avid Penn State fan, loved football and officiating.

Surviving are a son Richard Evans of Plantation, Fl.;  daughters Kathy DeSandis and her husband Robert of Clarks Summit, Karen Lotz and her husband Joseph and Laurie Kucharski all of Scranton;  grandchildren Ashley and Sierra DeSandis;  Richard and Frank Kucharski;  Austin, Kiley and Ian Lotz ; William and Matthew Evans; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother Rev. Wesley Evans.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with services by his nephew Rev. Jeff Evans.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8pm.

Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.
