Ruth Lloyd Crane

Ruth Lloyd  Crane

February 7, 2015

Ruth Lloyd Crane, 95, a resident of Wesley Village, Laflin, formerly of  the Petersburg section of East Scranton, passed away Saturday evening at Wesley Village after an illness. She was the wife of Vincent Crane who passed away January 2014.   Vince and Ruthie (who Vince often called “Jo”) were married for 72 years.

Born October 15, 1919 in Scranton, Ruthie was the daughter of the late Albert and Myrtle Swingle Lloyd and attended Scranton public schools. We remember how much she enjoyed getting all dressed up to shop in downtown Scranton.  She also took great pride in raising her children well and maintaining her home.  For quite a few years, she and her sister Harriet were part of a group of “girls” who got together to play cards.  Prior to her retirement she was employed for many years as the manager at Spotless Cleaners on Moosic Street.  She was a member of the Grace Reformed Episcopal Church.

Surviving are daughters Beverly Worthington (Carl), West Wyoming; Lois Turnauer (Harold),  Linglestown;  sons William Crane (Dorothy), Elmhurst; and Robert Crane (Susan), Scranton;  grandchildren Jeff Worthington (Judy), Jill Worthington (Michael), Jodi Alloway (Dan), Kelly Fontanella (Mark), Ellen (Scott) Connors, Brian Turnauer, Sarah and Matthew Crane;  great grandchildren Timothy and Jonathan Worthington, Alexandria and Landon Cook, Lia and Justin Fontanella, Brennan O’Malley, Delaney and Reid Connors, sister-in-law Genevieve Lloyd, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruthie was preceded in death by a brother Harold Lloyd;  sisters Harriet McConnon and Alberta Lloyd;  and her and Vince’s special canine buddies Jake and Benny.

The family thanks Dr. James Tricarico and the staff of Partridge-Tippett Nursing Home (Wesley Village) for their compassionate, attentive care of our mother and grandmother while she resided there for over nine years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 14 at the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St., Scranton, PA  18510 officiated by Rev. Nancy Pitely, retired Chaplain of Wesley Village.

Friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Village Employees Fund, Wesley Village, 209 Roberts Rd., Pittston, PA, 18640;  or a pet rescue center of your choice.
