Norman W. Moir, Jr., Scranton, died Sunday evening in the Green Ridge Health Care Center after an illness.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Norman W., Sr. and May I. Seamon Moir.   Norman was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  Prior to his retirement he had a long and distinguished career in education.  

Norman loved music and spent many hours playing the organ which provided him with much joy.   He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are sisters Nance Sweeney and Lynn Moir;  a brother Kirk Moir and his wife Susan; nieces and nephews Mary Sweeney and her husband Evan Romer, John Sweeney and his wife Lisa and their daughters Erin and Kelsey,  Griffith Lewis and his wife Kathy and their sons Ian and Karl,  Kristina Moir Carone and her husband Michael and their children Lila, Sadie and Teagan, Rebecca Mescall and her husband Damian and their son Ryan and Steven Moir and his companion Holly Hughes.

He was also preceded in death by a sister Joyce Lewis.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 25th at 4pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with Rev. David Searing, pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church officiating.

Friends may call Saturday from 3pm until time of service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

    We taught with Norman for many years at North Pocono. He was a true gentleman, a dedicated educator and a person who loved music. You have our sincere condolences. May he rest in peace celebrating a life well lived.

    Sorry to read of Mr Moir’s passing. He was a great teacher. He made a sometimes difficult geometry understandable for us math-challenged. Loved his Corvette. Note: He used to pay Garry Kausmyer $0.25 a day to watch over it when the elementary busses arrived @ the high school and transferred students at the end of the day. My condolences
