Alice L. Fritzen, 97, a lifelong resident of the Keyser Valley section of Scranton, died Monday morning in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. She was the widow of John Fritzen who died in 1996.
Born in 1919 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Blodwyn Prosser Fletcher. She was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School and was the oldest living member of the Berean Church, West Mountain section of Scranton and was a past member and treasurer of the Loyalty Sunday School Class. She was also a girl scout leader at the church for many years. She was a member of the Keyser Valley Senior Citizens Association where she was very proud of the fact that she was the Sergeant at Arms for over 25 years.
Alice was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and enjoyed working in her garden, where she was an avid bird watcher. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are daughters Dorothy Davis and her husband Ernie, Barbara Varaksa and Cheryl Fritzen all of Scranton; Cheryl’s companion Joseph Tedesco of Old Forge; a brother Alfred “Fritz” Fletcher of China, ME; three grandchildren Paul Davis and wife Melanie of Russellville, KY, Steven Davis and wife Leanne of Dalton and Susan Williams and husband Jack of Scranton; nine great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers George, Donald and Bill Fletcher; a sister Dorothy Penn.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton by Rev. James Buchanan pastor of the Berean Church.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm.
Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.
