Ruth Beverly Thomas Zimmerman

Ruth Beverly Thomas Zimmerman, 84, Benton Township, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on May 14, 2019.  She was the wife of her high school sweetheart Charles “Bud” Zimmerman.   The couple would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this June.   Ruth had surgery in 2010 for Breast Cancer, she was a 9 year cancer survivor.

Born in Scranton, Ruth was the daughter of the Elmer and Ruth Seymour Thomas.  Ruth was a 1952 graduate of West Scranton High School, attended Lackawanna Junior College and was a graduate of the High Park Bible Institute State Teacher School, receiving an elementary teacher certificate.

Ruth was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church for 80 years where she was a founder and member of the LOA Class.   She was a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years, served as President of the Young at Heart Group and taught child evangelism in various homes, churches and Allied Services for Special Children.

Ruth was a bank teller at the West Side/Merchant Bank and the SAMP Credit Union.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Anees Fogley as well as Karen and Mary Kay for their loving care of Ruth for 37 years.  They would also like to thank Dr’s Hyzenski, Baikada, Peairs and Dzwonczyk and the nurses and staff of the seventh floor of Regional Hospital.

Also surviving are two daughters Cindy Freeman and husband Randy and Cathy Pratt and husband John;  son Todd Zimmerman and wife Amy;  seven grandchildren Nathan Pratt and wife Rachel, Jordan Pratt and wife Alyssa, Candace and Seth Pratt, Tyler Zimmerman, Spencer Zimmerman and Carter Zimmerman;  three great grandchildren MacKenzie, Lincoln and Matilda Pratt.

She was also preceded in death by a brother E. Robert Thomas and a baby sister.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with Rev. Elliott Cooke, pastor of the Jackson Street Baptist Church.

Friends may call Friday from 4-7pm.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages and requests memorial contributions be made to either the Quilters, Young at Heart Club or the Deacons Fund of the Jackson Street Baptist Church 1204 Jackson Street Scranton, PA 18504.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of Robert C. Jones, funeral director.
