Chris C. Gardier Jr. a lifelong resident of Dunmore, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Chris was born October 1, 1930, to the late Christopher C. Gardier, Sr. and Evelyn Harrity Gardier. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary T. Gardier. He was a graduate of the Scranton Preparatory School class of 1948 and of the University of Scranton Class of 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955. Chris was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. until he became a licensed real estate broker and realtor in 1963 and joined the family real estate agency, Chris C. Gardier Real Estate, which he operated until his death. An emeritus member of the Greater Scranton Board of Realtors, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Board of Realtors and the National Association Board of Realtors, he was a certified real estate appraiser who conducted appraisals for the Veteran Administration for 45 years. He had been an instructor of real estate at the University of Scranton and Penn State Scranton. A devout Catholic, Chris was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel parish. He shared his faith with his children and grandchildren. Chris enjoyed membership at the Elmhurst Country Club, and was a member of the Green Ridge Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the Exhausted Roosters Club. A strong, loving, loyal, humble, responsible son, brother, spouse, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Chris shared his enthusiasm and love for life with all. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his six children: Atty. Mary Theresa and husband, Atty. Paul Paterson, Scranton; Denise Gardier McWilliams, West Chester, PA; Joanie and husband, Atty. Christopher Roe, Malvern PA; Lisa M. Gardier, Dunmore; Christopher C. Gardier III, Dunmore; and Michael A. Gardier, Dunmore. Chris is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Barrett and Jane Haller, both of Dunmore; a cousin, Frank de la Reguera; 14 grandchildren, Kyleen, Bridget and Brian Roe; Stephen Roe and wife, Betsy; Dr. Kevin Roe and wife, Joy; Emily Roe Nguyen and husband Dr. Khoa Nguyen; Michael A. Gardier, Jr.; Michael, Jack and Kyra McWilliams; Kathleen Paterson; Kaitlin Rose Gardier; Mary Lee and Josh ua Eddie; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut Street, Dunmore by Monsignor Michael Delaney. All those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to the church. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St., Scranton. Interment will be at Dunmore Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Commonwealth Medical College, Chris C. Gardier Fund, attn.
