Leona Mae Williams, 98, died Tuesday morning at the St. Mary’s Villa where she resided for the past 7 years. She formerly resided at the Hayes-McDade Apartments, Clarks Summit and in West Scranton. She was the wife of Tudor Williams who died in 1989.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James H and Emma Decker. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and retired as an administrative assistant for the former Blair and Company of Scranton. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ where she had served on the church council and chaired the memorial fund. She had been a member and former chair of the Women’s Circle and the Quilters. She also volunteered at CMC.
Leona was a woman of deep faith and enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Surviving are two sons Rev. James T. Williams and his wife Rev. Linda of Allentown and William Williams and his wife Barbara of Nashville, Tn.; two grandchildren Jamie and Christopher; four step grandchildren Dawn Johnson, June Piggott, Kelly Hardin and Jamie Cacchio; nine great grandchildren; a sister Marion Decker of Scranton; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother Howard and a sister Louise.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11am in the First United Church of Christ, corner of N. Bromley Ave and Price St, West Scranton officiated by her son the Rev. James T Williams.
The family will receive friends from 10am until time of the service at the church.
