           Audrey J. Powell, 79, West Scranton, died early Friday morning at the Allied Skilled Nursing facility.  Her husband of 56 years was William R Powell who died March 27, 2012.

            Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lila Jones Aston.  She was a retired operator for Verizon.  She was 1951 graduate of West Scranton High School.  She was a life member of the United Baptist Church of Scranton where she was active in all phases of the church including many years as Deaconess.  She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Martha Washington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

            Audrey was a loving wife and sister who enjoyed being with her family, teaching her nieces and nephews how to swim, baking cookies, and putting on a meal.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

            Surviving are three sisters Lucille Lowe of Scranton, Shirley Connors of Maryland and Dale Smith and her husband Leslie of Clarks Summit; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Scaramuzzo, Elizabeth Aston, Mildred Reed, Lila Mae Ryder, Hannah Morgan and infant sister Anna.

            In accordance with Audrey’s wishes she was cremated.

            A memorial service will be held Saturday May 5 at 1pm in the Countryside Community Church, Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit.

    God Bless you Audrey and thanks for the great memories and good times. I can still picture as clear as day, the “Modeling” of the fine clothing with you. Dale, and Lydia.

    There aren’t many people who can make going to work fun, Audrey was one of those people. We had many laughs at the phone company, thanks to Audrey. She was a great co-worker & a BIG Tom Jones fan. God Bless her & her family. I thank her for her friendship & hope she will rest in peace.
