Dorothy M. Morris
April 14, 2013
Dorothy M. Morris, a resident of the Abington Manor, formerly of the Cabrini Apartments, West Scranton, died Sunday after a battle with lung cancer and COPD.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Evan and Helen Sasack Morris. She attended Scranton Technical High School and worked most recently as a housekeeper at the former Mercy Hospital and also spent many years working in the garment industry.
Dorothy loved her coffee and could often be seen walking the halls of the Abington Manor looking for her refill. She loved watching NCIS and Law and Order/SVU and playing bingo at the facility. She was the “diva,” wearing her bling until the very end.
The family would like to thank the entire nursing and support staff of the Abington Manor for their kind, compassionate and professional care for Dorothy as well as their support to the family. They became a second family to Dorothy and her sister. The family also extends their thanks to the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their support and care during Dorothy’s final days.
She is survived by her caretakers, her sister and brother in law Rita Morris Selemba and Robert; a brother William of Spokane, WA; a sister in law Susan Morris of Hewitt, NJ; her godchild and niece Stacey Volinsky; nieces Kimberly Selemba, Danielle Shostal, Beverly Caputo Carey and Mia Morris; nephews David and Evan Morris; three great nephews; a great niece; several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Richard and David Morris and her sister Shirley Morris Caputo.
As per Dorothy’s request there will be no viewing.
Following cremation, interment of ashes will take place in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery, Scranton.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30am in St. Peter’s Cathedral, Wyoming Ave. Scranton by Rev. Thomas Muldowney.
