Ellen D. James, 93, formerly of West Scranton, died Thursday morning in the MidValley Health Care Center, Peckville. Her husband of 63 years at the time of his death in 2003 was Trevor James.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Dusha Lloyd Thomas. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a manager with the American Tobacco Company. She was a member of the first graduating class of West Scranton high School. She was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, the J.O.C. Sunday School Class and the Martha Washington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a woman of strong Christian faith. An avid football fan, she specifically rooted for the Lakeland Chiefs and the West Scranton Falcons.
Surviving are a son Robert and his wife Theresa of Ormond Beach, Fl; a grandson Robert, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Spartanburg, SC; a granddaughter Michele Graniel and her husband Chris of Scranton; great grandsons Christian and Jake Graniel.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Willard and Roy Thomas.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11am in the Jackson Street Baptist Church, corner of Jackson St and Hyde Park Ave., West Scranton officiated by Rev. Norman Bright.
Friends may call Tuesday morning at the church from 10am until the time of service.
Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.
