Jean L. Morris, lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Thursday morning at home after an illness.   Her husband was Arthur Morris who died in 1987.

 

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lilah Shafer Zang.  She was a graduate of West Scranton High School.   Jean was a lifelong member of the United Baptist Church where she devoted many years to church activities including being a member and past president of its Cymdeithas Class, former assistant superintendent of its Sunday school, member of the Altar Guild, Deaconate Board and choir. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader at the First Welsh Baptist Church, and a past president of the PTA at Charles Sumner School.

 

Prior to retirement she had been employed by the State of Pennsylvania in the Department of Public Welfare and also with the Linen Systems for Hospitals Company.  In her retirement she provided loving end of life caretaking for many families.

 

Jean was a woman who enjoyed people and had a gift for making others feel significant.  Her generosity, loving nature, and lightheartedness were equally matched by her wisdom and tenacity.  Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. 

 

Surviving are daughters Sharon Barrett and her husband David and Susan Walsh all of Moscow; grandchildren Jeannine Barrett, John Walsh and his wife Julia, David Barrett and his wife Susan and Sara Walsh; great grandchildren Lilah, Rhys and David McKnight, Sadie and Ophelia Barrett and Joy and Evan Walsh; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

 

Jean was preceded in death by brothers Frederick, Robert and William Zang.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11am in the Vanston & James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.

 Friends may call Sunday from 3-6pm.

 

Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
