Celebration of Life Service:
A celebration of life service will be held for Evelyn Yeager Searing on Saturday April 26th, 11:00am at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1000 Taylor Ave. Scranton.
Evelyn passed into eternal life on November 26, 2013. She was the wife of Albert L. Searing who passed away in March of 1975 and had two sons, David, pastor at St. Peters and Karl who passed away July 4, 1972.
She was a wife, mother, sister, grandma and gigi to her granddaughter and an aunt and friend to many others.
The service will be followed by a reception in the church hall.

Evelyn Searing, formerly of West Scranton, more recently of Lutherwood Apartments, passed away Tuesday afternoon in the Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Scranton after an illness. She was the widow of Albert Searing who died in 1975.
Born in Elmhurst on June 24, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth Wardell Yeager. She was educated in Scranton public schools. Evelyn was a member of the former St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and after its closing she became a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed by the Scranton Public Library in West Scranton as well as the Trinity Congregational United Church of Christ also in West Scranton.
Evelyn shined as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always outgoing and would talk to anyone she met. Her assumption was that everyone was worthwhile and she treated them as such. That will be her lasting legacy.
Evelyn in survived by her son Pastor David Searing of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hill Section of Scranton and his wife Mary Lou; grandsons Karl Searing and his wife Kelly, Paul Searing and Jennifer Hoff; a granddaughter Cheryl Lorio and her husband Jonathan; a great granddaughter Bailey Searing; a sister Alice Smith of Beacon, NY; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son A. Karl Searing; a brother Willard Yeager; sisters Valeda Walton, Wilma Smith and Reba Yocum.
A memorial service will be held Saturday April 26th at 11am in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 1000 Taylor Ave. Scranton.
Interment will be private and take place in Abington Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions be made to either the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Discretionary Fund 425 Jefferson Ave. Scranton, Pa. 18510 or to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Discretionary Fund 1000 Taylor Ave. Scranton, Pa. 18510.
Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.
