Dorothy M. Walsh, a resident of the Petersburg Section of Scranton, formerly of South Scranton, passed away Thursday morning at the Mountain View Care Center after an illness.


Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Alice Connolly Walsh.  Dorothy was educated in the Scranton public schools and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church.   Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the Scranton Housing Authority.


Dorothy was a loving sister and a wonderful cousin. Her home was always open to and often filled with her nieces and nephews, as well as their children. She was truly a devoted Aunt. Her family will miss her dearly.


The family would like to thank the caregivers at Moses Taylor Hospital, Mountain View Care Center, as well as Dr. Joseph Greco and his staff for the dedicated and compassionate care they provided to Dorothy.


Surviving are a sister, Katherine Barrett of Scranton; a sister in law, Dianne Walsh of Virginia; multiple generations of nieces and nephews; and cousins.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Walsh and Eileen Ludwig; her brother, Peter “PJ” Walsh; brothers in law, Robert Ludwig and Atty. Paul Barrett.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 2 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton.


Friends may call Saturday from 1 pm until time of Mass at the church.


Interment will be private in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Friends of the Poor, 2300 Adams Ave. Scranton 18509 or by visiting friendsofthepoorscranton.org 


Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St. Scranton.
