Rose Rossi, a resident of Dunmore, passed away Tuesday in the Moses Taylor Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of August “Gus” Rossi who died November 19, 2001.
Born December 25, 1921 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Rosalie Micciche Melia. Along with being a devoted wife and mother Rose also operated her own dress business and was very proud of the fact that she was the first woman in Dunmore to run for tax collector. Rose was a woman of great Catholic faith.
Rose was the matriarch of our family. She loved holding court and was the happiest telling stories of her past. She fiercely loved her family and was a strong, independent woman.
Rose is survived by her loving family including her son Philip J. and his wife Cindy; her daughter in law Mary Rossi; granddaughters Maria Cahill and her husband Steve and Tina Golumbeski and her husband Jesse; her dedicated caregiver and grandson Matthew Rossi; great grandchildren Veronica Rose and Clark August; sister and brother in law Marge and Ken Bittner; nephews and her niece Betty Ann Hicks who Rose often referred to as the daughter she never had.
She was preceded in death by her son journalist Frank Rossi who died in 1992; sister Elizabeth Sciabarassi; brothers Sam and Jim Melia and Tony Beloma.
The family requests that anyone attending the funeral to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton by Rev. Joseph Sica, a cousin of the family.
