Robert M. Kerrigan, Jr.

Robert “Bob” M. Kerrigan, Jr., 64, of Old Forge died Friday morning surrounded by his family at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after a full and wonderful life.  He was blessed to be married to his best friend, Sandra Popish Kerrigan.   The couple celebrated 44 happy years of marriage on April 11th.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert M. Kerrigan, Sr. and Margaret Jennings Kerrigan.  He graduated from West Scranton Senior High School.  Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a member of the “Seabees” in Vietnam.  He completed PA Act 120 training at Lackawanna Junior College and became a member of the Scranton Police Department.  He retired as a Sergeant in 1992 after 22 years of dedicated service.  In the years following, he worked for A.J. Stassi Coal & Oil until 2011.  He was a member of St. Clare/St. Paul Parish in Scranton.

The family would like to offer its thanks and appreciation for all of the overwhelming kindness and support received over the last few weeks from so many.  In particular, the family is especially grateful to Bob and Sandy’s dearest friends Danny and Sandy Corby, who were there with them every step of the way.

More than anything, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family.  He loved his pilgrimages to South Bend, IN to visit Notre Dame, Notre Dame Saturdays in the fall, long drives in his Corvette and attending any event for one of his grandchildren.  Most of all, he treasured taking trips to the beach and Disney World with his family.  Bob was very passionate about his wife, his children and especially his seven grandchildren, who were his greatest joys.  He was guilty of one thing only during his life, and that was excessive pride for his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments.  He was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, brother and, most importantly, Papa.  He will be missed beyond what words can express and his memory will be cherished by all those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, surviving are his son Robert M. Kerrigan, III his wife Jessica and their children Lainey, Brady, and Lauren of Katy, TX, his daughter Kirsten Kerrigan McIntyre, her husband David and their children David, Jayna, Annie and Mollie of Scranton; sisters Mary Ellen Altieri and her husband Neil and Maureen Cawley and her husband James all of Scranton; nieces; nephews and numerous friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Keegan of Scranton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10am in the St. Paul’s Church 1510 Penn Ave. by Msgr. William Feldcamp.

Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Monday from 5-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.

Bobby was a great husband, dad, grandfather and a true friend, but heaven needed a angel to watch over everyone and he chose him. Bobby was truly a great guy and he made everybody that knew him smile. He will truly be missed. Our prayers and thoughts to his family. Rest in peace until we meet again.
