Sr. Joseph de St. Gabriel Kilkenny of the Little Sisters of the Poor died Wednesday morning at Holy Family Residence.
Born Marie Patricia Kilkenny, daughter of the late Joseph Albert Kilkenny and Ida Marie Le May, she made her religious profession on December 13, 1947 at the Novitiate of the Little Sisters of the Poor in St. Hilaire, Canada. Convinced at a young age that “it is more blessed to give than to receive”, she had the heart of a missionary and dedicated herself to serve in mission countries most of her life. This missionary spirit sums up her life as a true Little Sister of the Poor until she left us for her eternal reward.
Surviving are her brothers, Patrick (Betty) and Joseph (Sandra) and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Tina Kilkenny.
The funeral will be Monday with the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11a.m. in the Chapel at Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call Sunday, 3 to 8p.m., at Holy Family Residence with the recital of the Rosary at 4:30pm followed by evening prayer.
