Thomas Harold Edmund Campion of Scranton, died unexpectedly Sunday evening.

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Mary Penyak Campion and T. Harold Campion, former Clerk of the Federal Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of the Scranton Preparatory School and Georgetown University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He was also an honor graduate from the Fortis Institute where he earned a Professional Certification in Phlebotomy. Tom had taught college level real estate courses and took continuing education courses at Lackawanna College and the University of Scranton.

Tom was a dedicated public servant, having served with Lackawanna County and the U.S. Department of Interior National Park Service. With the National Park Service, Tom served as a park ranger and later a museum technician for the Steamtown National Historic Site for over a decade and was instrumental in helping to establish the National Park Library and Museum. He also had a career as an accomplished real estate broker, appraiser, and auctioneer. As a licensed auctioneer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he handled many important auctions for WVIA and the Lackawanna County Sheriff’s Office as well as the liquidation of historic Scranton institutions such as the Markowitz Main Cut Rate.  

Throughout his life, Tom was a lover of history, antiques, literature, animals, and music.  In college, he was active with WGTB Georgetown Radio where he once interviewed rock icon Neil Young and met his late wife, Carol Campion. He later hosted his own R&B/blues program, “The Blues Hour,” on 99.5 WUSR University of Scranton Radio for many years. An avid historian, those who remember Tom can recall his expansive knowledge of U.S. and world history, automobiles and trains, politics and culture. Up until his death, he remained an active member of the Lackawanna Historic Society, Antique Automobile Club of America, Oldsmobile Club of America, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Tom was a devoted Roman Catholic and an active member and volunteer at St. Paul’s Parish in Scranton, Pa. 

Funeral services and interment will be private at the request of the family.
