Tracy “Red” Newcomb

Tracy “Red” Newcomb, a resident of the McDade Chinchilla Apartments, Olyphant died Wednesday at home after being stricken ill.   His wife was the former Charlotte Jones who died October 2, 2004.

Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Tracy R. and Katherine Schmidt Newcomb.  He was a retired warehouseman with Supermarket Services.  He was a 1956 graduate of West Scranton High School and was a member of the Teamsters Local 229. 

He was an avid and dedicated left handed bowler having been a member of several bowling leagues including the Times Majors, the Tribune and Teamsters leagues.  Tracy bowled several 300 games.  He was a co-founder and coach for the Junior Bowling League at South Side Bowling Lanes.  He had been a member of the Industrial League Softball Team.  For many years he was also a  drummer for several area bands.  Tracy was an avid New York Yankee and New York Giant fan.

Surviving are two sons Charles T. and his wife Betty L. of Scranton and David P. and his wife Grace of Dickson City;  two grandsons Charlie and his wife Carri and Edward and his wife Jenny;  three great grandchildren Paige, Ryan and Alison.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton officiated by Rev. Stefan Biggs, Associate Pastor of the Parker Hill Community Church.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm. 

Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.

    Our families deepest sympathy to your family. Charlie and his wife and sons were part of our eArly childhood in Jr. 60’s and 70’s. A great fun loving family man. Rest in peace

    Very sorry for your loss. I will also miss him very much. I enjoyed our conversations and visits to his apartment. He was a great individual. Sorry I was unable to make it to his viewing but I was out of town yesterday.
