Margaret R. Decker, 93, formerly of West Scranton, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa, died early Thursday morning in the Regional Hospital of Scranton.  She was the widow of James Howard Decker who died in 1986


Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Gibbons Judge.   She was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School.   She was a longtime member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church where she was a Past President and Secretary of its JOC Sunday School Class.  She was a member of the Keyser Valley Senior Citizens.  Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Atty. Morris Gelb as a legal secretary.


Peg was proud of her Irish heritage.   She was an avid southpaw bowler, bowling in the Tribune Ladies and the Idle Hour Classics Bowling Leagues.  Her love of bowling filtered down to both her southpaw bowling grandson Donald Bailey and southpaw great grandson Jonathan Morris.   She enjoyed playing bingo, going on bus trips, reading and crocheting. 

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home for the personal care given to their mother. 


Surviving are daughters Dianne Greschuk and husband Daniel of West Palm Beach, FL and Peg Bailey and husband Don of Scranton;  a son Howie Decker and wife Jean Marie of Scott Twp;  a sister Lois Borer of Dunmore; a sister in law Marion Decker of Elmhurst Twp;  grandchildren Wendy Morris, Donald Bailey, Lauren Decker, Craig Decker, Kyle Decker, Rachel Decker, Merideth Sellars, Darren Greschuk;  great grandchildren Jonathan and Jared Morris;  twins Lincoln and Catherine Bailey, Ryan and Jadyn Sellars and Lilly and twins Olivia and Annabelle Greschuk; nieces and nephews.


Preceded in death by sisters Lucille White, Katheryn McHale, Joan Johnson, Mildred Davis and Margaret Lavelle; brothers Jack Lewis and Jack Judge


Funeral services will be held Monday at 10am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton by John Conforti.


Friends may call Sunday from 4-7pm.


Interment, Abington Hills Cemetery.

    We were saddened to hear that Margaret had passed. She was a wonderful woman who enjoyed life and was very social. She will be missed by all.
