Helen G. Schumann

Helen G. Schumann, Scranton, died Monday morning in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit after a long illness.   She was the widow of Edward O. Schumann who died May 1, 2001.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Hellen Mullin Griffin.   Helen was a graduate of Marywood Seminary and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Parish, Scranton.  She was a dedicated and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and also Ann and Jeffrey Loughney for their dedicated and compassionate care which they afforded Helen during her illness.

Surviving are sons Colonel Edward D. Schumann, United States Army Retired of Indian Shores, Florida and Coronado, Panama and David J. Schumann of Kennwick, Washinton; a daughter Sandra Carden of Scranton;  nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews;  great nieces and nephews.

Helen was also preceded in death by her sisters Kitsy Hart, Lucy Pfohl, Angela Rink, Anne Vanston and Jeanne Quakenbush and a brother Jack Griffin.

Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart 600 Baltimore Dr. Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18702.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Ash St., Scranton.

    So sorry to hear of mom Schumanns passing. Many fun hours were spent in her back yard. She will be fondly remembered as a caring and loving person. May the God of all comfort give you peace today and in the difficult days to come. Much love, Debbie Rosiak
