Mary Ruth Walsh, a resident of the Abington Manor, formerly of Williamsport and Scranton, died Wednesday after an illness. She was the widow of Joseph Walsh, Sr who died in 2006.
Born on 1923, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Linn Hopkins. Mary Ruth was a graduate of the St. Mary of the Assumption School. She had been a member of St. Clare’s Church. She had been employed by the Tribune newspaper as a telephone operator and later as the receptionist at the Linn McDonald School of Dance where she was fondly known to all as “Aunt Mary.”
Her best friends were her 3 sisters who were lovingly known together as the “Fearsome Foursome”. They loved each other very much and especially enjoying whiskey sours together.
Surviving are a son Joseph D. Walsh, Jr. of Scranton; nieces and nephews among them being Linn McDonald of Scranton.
Mary Ruth was also preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Walter Hopkins, sisters, Jane McDonald, Rita Vanston and Louise Kilcullen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 13th at 10am in St. Clare’s Church, 2301 N. Washington Ave. Scranton.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
