Edith J. Williams

Edith Jane Williams, West Scranton, passed away Tuesday morning inHoly Family Residence.  She was the widow of her adoring late husband, David Williams who died May 29, 2015.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Esther Peters Kaufman.  She was a graduate of West Scranton High School.  After her children started high school, Edith began working at Oppenheim’s followed by JC Penny’s eventually beginning 25 years of service at Mercy Hospital in the business office.  Edith was a member of the Trinity Congregational Church, the Century Club, as well as the PTA and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years.

Edie leaves a legacy of abounding love, kindness, and compassion for all – her loving family and friends especially, and often helping even perfect strangers.  With her endearing spirit, she saw the good in everyone.  She was most proud of and cherished her four children, 10 grandchildren and spouses, and 7 great-grandchildren that now carry on the strong values she instilled throughout the generations who watched her handle life’s challenges with dignity and grace.  The infinite love she had for her family was only surpassed by her utter devotion to her late husband, and she was only complete as long as she had “her David.”  He was always her favorite hello and was her hardest goodbye.  They are now together again forever.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Holy Family Residence and The Little Sisters of the Poor for the outstanding, compassionate, and loving care given to Edith over the final weeks of her life.  They would also like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli for his compassionate and professional care given to both Edith and her husband David over the years.

Surviving are daughters Jane Gaul and her husband John of Clarks Summit, Cathy Pregnar and her husband Daniel, and Elizabeth Cacioppo and her husband Carmen; a son David, Jr. and his wife Ann all of Scranton; a brother Arthur Kaufman of Florida; ten grandchildren;  seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brothers William and Fred Kaufman.

Dear, Jane, Cathy, Betty & David, You may not remember my family but you lived next door to us on West Elm Street for a while. I remember your family vividly and fondly. You were all very little at the time. I loved your mom & dad – your dad actually helped me learn to drive and how to correctly parallel park a car ( I think of him every time I do that) Your mom was such a sweetheart and I’m sure you will miss her terribly as I know you do your dad as well. I just wanted to send my deepest condolences to your family and let you know they are both fondly remembered as a small part of my life. God Bless…………may Dave & Edith RIP.

Jane, Cathy, Betty, David and children,

I am thinking of you today. It is very difficult when both parents are gone. Find comfort in knowing they are together. The picture in the paper was beautiful and something to hold dear. We had so many wonderful holidays as children. Your mom was a very special part of the family.
