Concetta M. Portanova

Concetta “Blanche” Portanova, a resident of the Golden Living Center, Scranton, died early Thursday morning after an illness.   Her husband was the late Thomas Portanova who died in 1991.

 

Born in Scranton on April 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances DeSanto.  She was educated in Scranton Schools.  Blanche was of the Catholic faith.

 

Surviving are sons Joseph and Jude of Scranton and Thomas of Dunmore; grandchildren Moriah and Richard Bechtold, Gregory, Brandon and Nicholas Holl; a great granddaughter Lily Bechtold;  sister in law Josephine DePietro;  niece and nephew Carol and John Hassett.

 

She was preceded in death by her daughters Francis Portanova and Connie Holl; a son in law Paul Holl;  a daughter in law Donna Portanova;  sisters Frieda Rinaldi, Philamenia Luciano and Angelica DeSanto;  a brother John DePietro.

 

Her family would also like to thank the administration and businesss office,  therapy and dietary departments, CNAs, and nurses of Golden Living Center.   A special thank you to Julie “the General” Gillette, who took care of her like she was her own mother.    A special thank you would also like to be given to Dr. Daniel Kazmierski for his kind compassionate care.

 

Her family felt greatly loved by her and she always had a special place in her heart for her youngest son Jude.

 

Friends may call Tuesday from 4-6pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton where a blessing service will also be officiated by Rev. Joseph Sica.

 

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
