Jean S. James, 91, died Tuesday morning in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at the Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. Her husband is J.D. James, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage on May 7th.
Born 1925 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth Ehrhardt Sykes. She graduated from Dunmore High School and went to work at the International Salt Company. While raising her family she worked at the former West Side Bank and Gertrude Hawk Chocolates. She was also employed at Justus True Value.
Jean’s love of music included singing as a soloist, performing with the Scranton Choraleers and singing in the church choir. She was a member of the Trinity Congregational Church and the Trinity Class.
Along with her husband she was a longtime member of the Holiday Rambler RV Club, traveling in every state and province in North America. In later years, winters were spent in N. Ft. Myers, Florida.
Her family would like to thank all the caregivers that helped her during the last two years and also the caring staff at the Willowbrook Assisted Living.
Also surviving are daughters Barb Mushel and her husband Al and Sue Kashuba and her husband Joe; grandchildren Jeremy Kashuba, Brian and Mark Mushel and Kristen Ollendyke; five great grandchildren; a sister Shirley Price.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter and son in law Karen and Bill Ollendyke.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday at 12pm in the Trinity Congregational Church 229 S. Main Ave. West Scranton with Rev. Jeremy Mullen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11am until time of service at the church.
