Clare Jean Bartels Jones, of Scranton, passed peacefully Wednesday, November 23rd, surrounded by her family, at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Henry Jones, Sr. who died January 29th. The couple was married for 64 years.
Born June 30, 1932, in Scranton, Clare was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Ferguson Bartels. In her younger years, Clare had many happy memories spent traveling and camping with her children. She attended United Baptist Church.
Clare enjoyed visiting her family in Michigan, and went on countless vacations with her dear friends, Charles and Lois Reese. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and television shows, specifically Dancing with the Stars and Judge Judy.
Clare will be greatly missed by her family and friends who have provided amazing comfort and support throughout the past ten months spent without the love of her life, Hank. They met in Kindergarten and fell in love in fourth grade. Clare put up a brave fight, but it was very difficult for her to bear the loss of her sweetheart.
Clare is survived by her son, Hank and his wife Maureen, Eugene and companion, Marilyn, and Donald and companion, Deb; grandchildren, Brian, Heather, Meghan and her fiancé, Kyle, Robert, Thomas, Donald, and Timothy; two great grandsons Troy and Brian; her beloved sister, Margaret Keeler, and her children Sean and his wife Brianna, Shamus, Shannon and companion, David and their children Anthony and Ayden, Shandra, and Shana; sister, Barbara Zymblosky; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and William Bartels.
As per Clare’s wishes private funeral services were held Saturday in the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Ash St. Scranton with Rev. Earl O. Cassel, officiating.
Interment, Milwaukee Cemetery, Ransom Twp.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vanston and James Funeral Home and are under the care and direction of Robert C. Jones, Funeral Director.
