Richard K. Secor

Richard K. Secor, a lifelong resident of the Hill section of Scranton, died Friday night in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania from complications of dementia.   His wife of 46 years is the former Ann Jordan.

Born in Scranton in 1943, he was the son of the late Willard and Helen Wydra Secor.  He was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School and upon graduation went on to serve in the Pennsylvania National Guard.  Prior to his retirement, Richard had a career of over 30 years as a salesman for Canada Dry.  He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Parish.  He had been very active with the East Scranton Little League where he was a coach and also served as treasurer. 

Richard was an avid bowler and fisherman and loved the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by a son David, and his wife Juliet, of Perkasie; daughters Ellen Costello, and her husband Patrick, of Hatboro and Beth McMynne, and her husband Paul, of Dunmore; a sister Carolee Woelkers and her husband William of Scranton.

Richard’s greatest delight were his grandchildren Noah Secor, Conor, Anne, Brendan and Kathleen Costello, and Nathan, Jamie and Kyle McMynne.

He is also survived by his extended family of Mary & Robert McAndrew, Ellen & Richard Davidson, Joseph & Margaret Jordan, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Jewish Home of Eastern PA especially the nurses, aides and volunteers of the 3rd floor, as well as the Compassionate Care Hospice for their dedication, love, and support given to Richard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in the Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton by Rev. Joseph Sica.

All attending the funeral are invited to go directly to the church.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

    I am very sorry to learn of Rich’s passing. I bowled with Rich for several years at the Dunmore Legion. His laugh lifted up the whole room. I enjoyed hanging out with him after bowling too. He always spoke so glowingly of his family. I’m really sorry for your loss.
