Mabel L. Holmes, Scranton, died early Sunday in the Geisinger Community Medical Center following a long illness. Her husband of 47 years is Rufus Holmes.
She was born in Farrell, PA and was raised in Scranton and was the daughter of the late Rev. Bernard N. Ross, the former pastor of the Bethel AME Church and Eula Patterson Ross. She was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School and was a retired employee of the Kardon Box Company of Philadelphia. Mabel was a member and ruling elder of the Covenant Presbyterian Church where she was an active participant in many committees and organizations of the church.
A mother of ten children, she is survived by nine, a sister and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11am in the Covenant Presbyterian Church 550 Madison Ave. Scranton.
Friends may call Friday morning from 9 – 10:45am at the church.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vanston and James Funeral Home and are under the care and direction of Robert C. Jones, Funeral Director.
