German Gonzalez, West Scranton, died Thursday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania following complications from a heart transplant. His companion is Dani Lowe Olfano.
Born 1964 in Puerto Rico, he is the son of Carlos Gonzalez of Scranton and Lillian Cheveres Cheveres of Puerto Rico. He was a graduate of the West Scranton High School. Unitil his illness he was employed by General Dynamics. He had also been employed by the CMC and Mercy Hospitals. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
German enjoyed golfing and taking golfing trips with his friends. He was always available to help others if needed.
Also surviving are daughters Rachael Marie Gonzalez and her fiancé Fernando Marques of Lake Ariel and Lauren Elizabeth Gonzalez of Honesdale; brothers Carlos Gonzalez Otaño of Scranton, Javier Gonzalez Otaño of Philadelphia, Hipilito Rios Cheveres of Puerto Rico and Luis Rene Rios Cheveres of Florida; a sister Lourdes Rios Cheveres of Puerto Rico; former wife Lee DeFazio of Honesdale; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Xavier Rios Cheveres and a sister Laura Gonzalez Santiago.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 5pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with Rev. John Conforti, officiating.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4:50pm.
Interment, private at the convenience of the family in Abington Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate monetary contributions be made to assist with funeral expenses.
