Sister Esther Marie de la Trinité of the Little Sisters of the Poor died Saturday night, September 9, 2017, at the Holy Family Residence.
Born Catherine Meyer, daughter of the late Lawrence H. Meyer and Anna Veronica O’Neil, she made her religious profession on June 16, 1953 at the Novitiate of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Queens, New York.
Being the only daughter, Sr. Esther generously responded to God’s call to serve him as a Little Sister of the Poor even though she knew the sacrifice her parents would have to make by letting her go. Three years ago, Sr Esther at the age of 87 continued to be God’s faithful witness as she renewed her religious obedience when asked to be transferred from our Home in Latham, NY where she served for many years, to Holy Family Residence in Scranton. Hers was a life totally and joyfully given to God’s service. She graced everyone with her smile filled with gratitude and serenity.
Surviving are her nephews, Robert L. Meyer and wife Lynn of Saratoga Springs, NY and John D. Meyer of Syracuse and many cousins and several grand nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother Lawrence D. Meyer and her nephew William Meyer.
