Dale Ardith Smith, 83, of Clarks Summit died Saturday at Abington Manor. She and her husband Leslie Earl Smith had been married 60 years when he died on February 7, 2017.
Born in Scranton, the youngest of 9, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lila Mae Jones Aston. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1952. Prior to her marriage she worked at the former I.C.S. She and her husband moved to Milton, PA where she was involved raising two sons and being active in her church and the boys scouting. After 22 years in Milton they moved back to the area where Dale eventually joined the Countryside Community Church.
Surviving are two sons David of Moosic and Richard and his wife Linda of Scranton; 4 granddaughters Celeste Smith, Megan Mirfield, Kaitlyn Rettura and her husband Anthony and Kelsey Gragon and her husband Tim; 3 great-grandchildren Connor Smith, Audrey Mirfield and Grant Mirfield.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Cindy Smith; 8 sisters Shirley Connor, Mary Scaramuzzo, Elizabeth Aston, Mildred Reed, Lila Mae Ryder, Hannah Morgan, Lucille Lowe and Audrey Powell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Abington Manor for the exceptional care they gave to their mother exceptional care they gave to their mother especially Sue Gilbert, who went over and above for love and care she gave.
At Dale’s request she will be cremated with a private service to be held at the convenience of her family.
Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be given to the Building Fund at Countryside Community Church, 14011 Orchard Dr. Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
