Eugene “Gino” Romanini, Keyser Valley, passed away Tuesday afternoon at home surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 62 years was the former Shirley Marie Walker who passed away August 11, 2011.
Born in Camden, New Jersey he was the son of the late Dominic and Serifina Passeri Romanini. Gino was a dedicated and faithful member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and Greeter. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as the Recap Department Manager for both Duke and Sandone Tire Sales. He was a dedicated Freemason and was a member of the Acacia Lodge F.&A.M. 579 where he had served as treasurer and was also of the Tall Cedars. He also bowled in the former Hyde Park Church and Eastern Traveler Bowling Leagues and was a member of the Welsh American Club.
Lovingly known as the mayor of the Keyser Valley, Gino had a wonderful sense of humor and was always willing to help anyone who needed him. He will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Surviving are daughters Freda Weinerth and her husband Jeffrey of Scranton and Gloria Fay and her husband Kevin of Belvidere, IL; a son Gene L. and his wife Cherith of Scranton; thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; adopted children Susan Romanini of State College, Ernest Romanini of Lewisburg, Deborah Mattocks and her husband William and Diana Simonetti and her husband Terry all of Meadville; his faithful companion Rexy; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Frank, Dominic, Tony, Fred, Ernest and Leonard.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton with Rev. Dr. Elliot Cooke, officiating.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm.
Masonic services will be held at 4:45pm. Members are asked to meet at the funeral home by 4:30pm.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
