Fond memories of Ralph sitting at Mansour’s counter on his afternoon coffee and ice cream break. Always a gentleman.

I have many find memories of our Elmhurst neighbor. Even as teens Nancy Jankauskas and I would go to the shoe store to see Buddy and get our pretzel stick. He was a true gentleman.

Many fun memories of buying shoes from this great gentleman. He always played a little joke which got my boy’s cooperation. Loved his sense of humor.

Hello
My names is Ann Lebowitz Monsky, as a point of reference, I am 66 years old. I just saw Ralph’s picture in today’s Scranton Times and immediately knew who this was. Of course, reading the obit confirmed my reaction.
All my shoes as a child were from Art Douglass. Memories are not only of the high seats and fun climbing to them, the rocking horse, the pretzels and the murals, and the silver metal shoe sizer, but of Ralph. He was so kind and patient and happy, and , as I always tell Don Douglas ( Art & Reba’s son ), Ralph was the best shoe tier ever!
May his memory be for a blessing for his family. The memory for me is a fond one.
Most sincerely,
Annie L.M.
Ps. I can even describe some of my fav shoes from my childhood which he helped me get

The world has lost a kind heart and a man who was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. My first thought I had when I saw his photo was how everyone loved the Art Douglas
Shoe Store because of him. Purchasing new shoes was always a pleasure because he MADE it that way. He was so patient as he measured the sometimes unco-operative wiggly little feet that only wanted to run on the steps or ride the horse. He always managed to get a smile and a perfect fit for each of his little customers. Everyone was treated like family and the kids loved those pretzels he handed out. He always left us with a joke and lookinn forward to our next visit. May you Rest In Peace Uncle Bud. I am positive you are an angel because of all the hearts you touched.
