Frances Nickel Lyons

Frances passed into the arms of God on Monday night at Allied Skilled Nursing.

Frances was born on December 17, 1920 in Washington, D.C,to the late August and Augusta Nickel. She would have been 100 this year.

She married Leo A. Lyons on November 25, 1941 and their marriage lasted 44 years until Leo died on March 22, 1985.

Frances was a loving wife and mother who believed in “tough love” Since our father was an over the road bus driver, her main weapon was “wait until your father gets home” but she rarely carried out her threats.
She was trained as a beautician and kept a small shop in her home to service neighbors and friends for many years. She and Leo also enjoyed many trips to Florida in the winter, and many family gatherings.
Frances enjoyed cooking and was an excellent baker, a gift from her mother who was trained as a pastry chef and seamstress in Vienna.

Frances was the oldest living member of Immaculate Conception Parish where she attended for nearly 99 years.

Frances was predeceased by her parents, brothers William and Thomas and a sister Mary Noon. She is survived by three sons, John (Connie) of Jenkintown, PA., Leo (MaryLou) of Scranton and Patrick (Maureen) of Clarks Summit, one brother, John Nickel of Cedar Grove, N.J. and a sister, Helen Nickel of Scranton, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and 3 nieces.

Arrangements will be handled by Vanston-James Funeral Home, Due to the corona virus pandemic there will no viewing. A memorial service will be held at a later date

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Allied Services Hospice.

The family thanks all of the nursing and medical staff of Allied for their loving and dedicated care in this difficult time.

To the sons of Mrs Lyons,
I would like to express my sincere condolences on your mother’s passing. My mother, Horty (Lynott) Mundy, considered her a dear friend. I will remember her kindness to me when my mother was ill and passed on in 1995. I hope they are together again catching up and enjoying some stories. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Pat and family,
I am sorry to hear about the death of your mother. I moved from Ridge in 1960, but I remember spending time in your house. I didn’t see her after I moved, but I remember your mom always making me feel welcome whenever I came over. May she rest in peace.

  10. Your nieces Sharon and Joan-

Aunt Fran we will truly miss you- we have all those wonderful memories when Sharon and I would visit a few weeks during the summer, especially going to the zoo and swimming and the great picnics. We remember all the perms you gave us- that was not a great time but we looked wonderful afterwards. We will always miss your great pies that you made up in about 20 minutes- you were fast!
We have those memories of sitting on your back porch on the swing and laughing over our kidding you from morning to night. God gave you so many years to love Him and that was actually a GIFT to you. you were like a mother to us.
