Herman E. Claus, III

Herman E. Claus, III of Scranton, died Monday evening at home surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years is Ann Marie Claus, the former Ann Marie Kakareka.

Born in Scranton on October 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman Claus, II and Dorothy Williams.  He was a graduate of West Scranton High School and attended Penn State Worthington Campus.  Prior to retirement, he was employed at RCA and later Thompson Consumer as a Foreman.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Scranton.  He was a member of the US Army National Guard.

Also surviving are his daughters Kimberly Schieber and husband Joseph of Springbrook Township.  Korine Tomarelli and husband Michael of Scranton.  A brother David Williams and wife Judy of Scranton.  Grand children Shawn and Amber Schieber.   A sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wardell and husband Norman of Scranton. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Leslie Williams, survived by his wife Nancy Williams.

Best parts of death,

I am now able to remember all of my life.

I grew up in the West Side of Scranton and lost my dad at an early age.  My mom remarried and I grew up with two younger brothers.  Unfortunately, I also lost my stepfather.  I learned the value of hard work at an early age.  This continued until my retirement.  I met the love of my life, Ann Marie in Scranton and could not wait to be married.  Soon came daughter, Kim.  We lived in the small apartment for many years and then welcomed my daughter, Korine.  Life was great.  I worked long and hard to provide my family with everything they wanted and needed.

We enjoyed many, many trips to Atlantic City and Disney World.  I can fully remember how much fun we had and seeing the happiness on my wife’s and children’s faces is so breathtaking.  The feelings all come rushing back.  I can now remember the tastes of all my favorite restaurants we used to go to.  The Nook in Pittston, Coopers Seafood House, Pizza Lovin, Arcaro’s, The Honkey Tonk.

I also can remember of the family outings to Lake Wallen Paw Pac, Gouldsboro State Park, Nay Aug Park, countless cookouts, birthday parties and most of all Christmas and Easter and Thanksgiving.

My pastimes include visits to my friend’s car shops:  Moose Sodano’s in East Scranton and Mike Neary’s in Scranton.  Projects were going to car auctions to find an old car to fix up, drive for a while then sell and move onto the next project.  Favorite day was always Father’s Day at Nay Aug Park, visiting all the guys with their cars under the umbrella and my car of the year.

I am not far away.  I will live in your memories forever.  Can’t wait for us all to be together again.  I will wait patiently for you all to get here.  In the meantime, I will be driving all the great cars, playing ball with Fluffy, Muffin, Joshua, Brittney, Baharockah and Rambo.

The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Traditional Home Heath and Hospice for their loving care provide to Herman.

So long Uncle Herman. I’ll never forget you teaching me to change the oil in my car and to drive a standard. That alone was a harrowing experience. I’ll always cherish the times we could talk boxing and how good you were to my family. Give my Dad and Gram a big hug for me when you see them. Til we meet again …

  8. Sending our Condolences to Herman’s family on his passing. We are the Granddaughters of his Aunt Ethel Williams Morgan and the daughters of his cousin, Walter Morgan. Herman was our second cousin. I recall our visits with my Dad and Sister, Dianne, to see Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Dave, Herman, David & Leslie at their home in Petersburg especially at Christmas time. Herman was a quiet guy but always friendly to my sister and I who were several years younger. I remember Aunt Dorothy commenting on his antique cars and all the hours he spent at De Naples getting car parts. The cars he restored were perfect!
You had a great life Herman! Rest In Peace. ???
