Jeffrey Marc Raider

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Marc Raider, Clark Summit resident, on August 15, 2020 at the age of 72, after a long illness.

Jeff was a graduate of Hobart College, received a Master’s in Social Work at New York University and received a law degree from St. John’s University. He worked at Emery Worldwide, WEA Manufacturing where he served as Vice President of Human Resources, Ufberg and Associates as an attorney, and at Dempsey Uniform and Linen Supply as Human Resources Manager. In his retirement, he continued to do legal work, participated in multiple volunteer and charitable activities including teaching English as a Second Language at SCOLA and serving on the board of Jewish Family Services.

Among the things Jeff enjoyed were playing racquetball at the Y with his buddies, playing golf, watching his favorite New York sports teams, and doing the NY Times crossword puzzles. However, what he loved most of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him Poppy.

He was preceded in death by his parents David and Ellen Raider.

He is survived by his loving wife, Chriss Hatcher-Raider; his four children, William Raider and wife Mary Alice, Donald Raider and wife Rachelle, Amy Sonderman and husband Jeff, and Jonathan Dende; his sisters Marilyn Raider and Madeline Levine; his grandchildren, Jamie, Jeremy, Jacob, Dean, Evie and Avery; his niece and nephew Leah and David; his cousins Matt, Amy and Jodi Mandel; and his sister-in-law Patricia Hatcher with husband William Mosier.

Internment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center Resident Welfare Fund 401 Penn Ave. Scranton, PA 18503

Jeff was one of the kindest people I know. Years ago my wife was hospitalized the same week I was to leave Emery. Jeff wouldn’t let me sign my exit papers until he verified we’d have medical coverage. At that time, many people were getting laid off and Jeff hated that aspect of his job. He actually teared up even talking about it.

    Prayers to his family.

Jeff and I started at Emery at about the same time in 1984 and we quickly became friends. When I saw his obituary this morning, so many of the crazy things we did together over the years (often involving handyman efforts for which neither of us was equipped) came flooding back. We were different in so many ways (Jeff…Yankees, me…Indians; Jeff…liberal, me…conservative, etc) but that never got in the way of our friendship and a lot of that had to do with Jeff always being up front in speaking his mind and sharing his thoughts without being judgemental, if that makes sense.

My condolences go out to Chriss and the entire family.

    Rest in peace, my friend.

I am broken hearted about Jeff’s passing. I known Jeff since he moved into this area and worked with him at Emery. He was a joy to be around, always having fun and causing some kind of excitement. When I was hospitalized back in 1988, Jeff visited me everyday and not just for a brief hello. He would stay quite a long time just talking and trying to keep my spirits up. He knew my entire family and was always friendly to them anytime he would see them. We lost a little contact when he went to WEA but my daughter worked there and we communicated at that time through her. He had such a big heart and never hesitated to help anyone. The last few years we rekindled are friendship golfing on a weekly basis. I only hope his chip shots are better in heaven! I’ll miss you my friend! May you rest in piece. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Raider family. Without a doubt, he was one of a kind.

Dear Chriss and family-Larry and I were so shocked and saddened to learn of Jeff’s passing. Jeff was a great guy and a great support to me as a JFS board member and friend. Jeff was always ready to help me with any legal or HR questions or guidance I needed. He was an open, honest person and I was glad to call him my friend. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

    In deepest sympathy,
    Sheila and Larry

To the entire Raider family I send my thoughts and prayers. I worked with Jeff at WEA Mfg for several years. He was always there whenever I needed any advice or direction as it related to HR issues. I remember the time we had to go to NY for a deposition and afterward he took to me Hell’s Kitchen for dinner. We walked through a grocery store front and into a restaurant in the back. I felt like I needed to keep my head on a swivel! After leaving WEA I needed some HR advice at my new place of employment and Jeff was always willing to help. We most recently had been staying in touch via texting during the NFL season as we watched the Packers and Giants games. I’m so sorry that I never got to see Jeff during his most recent health issues. He said we would get together for lunch when he was feeling better. Rest in Peace Jeff! You will be missed by so many!

My condolences to the Raider family. I worked with Jeff at Emery, where he was involved in everything. We played basketball in the Financial league at the Boys Club, and Jeff’s proudest moments were bringing Amy to the games. He was much better off the court. You will be missed, Jeff.
