James V. Evans

James V. Evans, 56, of Kingsley, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at his home. His wife of 27 years is Patricia Eversole Evans.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, He was the son of the late John and Kathleen Haser Evans. He was employed by Poly Hi Solidur in Scranton.

Jimmy was a social member of the Elk Mt. VFW post 8488, Kingsley, Pa. He loved bass fishing and was inspired to be a professional bass fisherman, but he met Pat, the love of his life, and sold the bass boat to build a house and start his family.

Jimmy also founded and organized a bass fishing derby at his own pond which brought veterans from the Gino Merli Veterans Center every year to enjoy a day of food, fun, and fishing because of the love and respect for his father, a Korean war veteran, he knew they deeply deserved.

Also surviving are two daughters Stephine Myers, New Milford; and Nicole Myers and her companion Adam Flores, Springville; a sister Linda Griffths and her husband Steven, Scranton; a brother John Evans, Scranton; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two nieces.

A Funeral service and Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Ash St. Scranton, and are under the direction of Henry Sobolak III FD.

The family wishes any Donation to be made in Jimmy’s name to be made the Elk Mt. VFW Post 8488, 8212 St Route 106, Kingsley Pa. 18826, all proceeds will go directly to the Sons of Nam Fishing Derby, to continue serving veterans in Jimmy’s memory.
