Harry Strickland was one of the best professors I ever had. He taught “financial institutions” using the text of each day’s Wall Street Journal–no textbook other than the day’s Journal. He brought finance to life. His own story with Merrill Lynch was insightful. I would like to think my ten-year post-retirement collegiate teaching brought even a smidgen of the learning to my students that Dr. Strickland brought to us at Scranton.

Harry’s ‘Wall Street Journal’ textbook teaching was an inspiration and brought financial numbers and statistics to real life, along with his occasional, off-campus breakfast/student apartment classes! His post-baccalaureate financial guidance and investment strategy worked well for me. I treasure the years of gracious hospitality and lodging he an Paulette extended to me on Grandview Avenue in Pittsburgh, the annual birthday calls, and Harry’s closing comments: “Keep your socks dry,” and “Have yourself a positive day.” R.I.P.

Dr Strickland was one of my best professors at “da U” and I respect him highly.
He was a great teacher, had super sense of humor, and helped me get through to graduate.
Actually I then spent 50 years in higher education in senior administration (23 years) and then full
time teaching for 27. Dr Strickland in many ways was a model for me in both areas.
I recall glancing at his outside office window each day where he would hang newspapers articles and add a humorous bent. As an administrator he got things and as a teacher he created curiosity
and a good way of teaching.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Paulette, Dr. Joe, Harry, Jr., Elizabeth, Betty and the rest of Dr. Harry B. Strickland’s family on his recent passing . He was a long time colleague and close friend of our late father, Professor Frank A. Cimini, going back many years to Dr. Harry’s earliest days at The University of Scranton. We recall him as one of the most respected and well-liked members of the faculty, so popular that the Class of 1970 dedicated their Windhover yearbook to him. Even after his move to Pittsburgh, where he continued his outstanding academic career, “Dr. Harry S” never forgot us Ciminis. He not only was particularly loyal to Frank throughout our father’s final days but he also kept current with us, right to the end, on a weekly basis. Every Sunday at around 7:15 p.m. we could count on his call. We very much looked forward to it. We do miss it now. Always a great teacher, it was from Dr. Harry Strickland that we have learned the meaning of “friendship” and the true value of what that word entails. May he Rest in Peace!
