Linda Zang

Linda Zang, of Scranton, passed away, unexpectedly, at home, after a long battle with COPD.  She and her husband, Robert Zang, Jr would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on September 15th.

Born in Peckville in 1949, daughter of the late Edward Slocum Sr. and Frances Steiler Slocum, she was a 1967 graduate of Dickson City High School.

A Senior Manager at Penn Foster for 28 years she was always a friendly, pleasant, and supportive presence to all.

Linda was an avid shopper with an incredible ability to find the perfect gifts for her family and friends whom she loved beyond measure.

Her Tandykakes, Sloppy Joes, and Piggies were much sought-after treats at any family gathering of which Linda enjoyed immensely. She loved to cook, but more importantly, she was overjoyed when she was able to celebrate any occasion with her family and friends.

Her absolute pride and joy were her beautiful granddaughters and handsome baby great-grandsons. They were truly the light of her life.

Linda loved to travel as evidenced with her many road trips, cruises, and vacations. Most recently she had visited Myrtle Beach, enjoying a nice drink by the pool and getting to watch her family enjoy the pool and beach brought her so much happiness.

Linda was the embodiment of joy, generosity, and love. All who ever had the true pleasure of knowing her became a better person for it. To say that Linda was loved by all is beyond measure.

Several, local, charitable organizations were lucky enough to have Linda serve on their board of directors, including The United Way of Lackawanna County.

Losing Linda has left a gaping hole in the collective hearts of her loved ones. Her abundance of love was felt by anyone who met her whether it was a fleeting encounter or a long-time relationship as it was with her “ICS” friends and her great buddy Bernadette Zang who she loved to join for dinners, her niece Wendy and great-nephew Ryan with whom she shared a very special bond, and her life-long buddy Sandy and the late Danny Corby and “nieces”, Danielle and Michelle Corby, and Sandy Kerrigan as well as many other friends whom she loved dearly and deeply with all her heart.

Also surviving are a son, Robert Zang III and fiancé, Lauresa Blasi of Clarks Summit, Ashley and Kyle Blasi, Tammy Gaughan and husband Tim of Moosic, granddaughters Brittany Zang (Orlando Valentin), Kasey Zang (Nick Murcia) and Brea Gaughan as well as great-grandsons Kayden and Karson, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and her special family Sandy, Danielle, and Michelle Corby.

Linda was preceded in death by her siblings, Susan Kowtko, James E. Slocum, Jr. and George Slocum.

Linda’s family would like to give may special thanks to her lifelong doctor Julie Speicher, the care and compassion that she provided to Linda is beyond measure and Linda’s family is forever grateful to her.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday at 4:00PM in the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash Street, Scranton.

Friends may call Saturday from 2:00 PM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter 967 Griffin Pond Road, South Abington Twp, PA 18411

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Linda without a smile on her face. As one of her long time ICS friends, all of us are feeling such sadness. Anyone who knew her, immediately fell in live with her. My heart goes out to all of you.

Linda, Thank you for everything. I just read in the paper today that Penn Foster is permanently closing and immediately your name came to mind. You are truly a beautiful soul and I can never truly thank you enough for being so good to me and my family. I will never forget sitting in your office the day you hired me at Penn Foster. It was at that moment my life changed forever. I will visit you in my dreams tonight for one more chat.

I had the privilege of working with Linda on a United Way campaign while at ICS. We shared insights, heartfelt stories and a ton of smiles and laughter. Through it all Linda focused on the task at hand. She was a deeply caring and compassionate woman. She will truly be missed.
