Katherine “Kay” Reilly

Katherine “Kay” Reilly, 99, a resident of The Gardens of Green Ridge, formerly of the Hill Section of Scranton, died Tuesday at home after being stricken ill.

Born July 12, 1922,  in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Loretta Mulrooney Reilly and was a graduate of St Patrick’s High School, the University of Scranton where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Marywood University where she earned a Master of Arts Degree.  Prior to retirement, Kay had a long and rewarding career in teaching in the Scranton School District.  Kay and her sister Evelyn established the Evelyn M. and the Katherine T. Reilly Scholarship and the Reilly Reading Room in the Weinberg Memorial Library at the University of Scranton and the Charles and Loretta Mulrooney Reilly Scholarship at Marywood University.  She was a member of the University of Scranton President’s Circle and the Per Deo Society.  She was a devoted and faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church and it’s 800 Club.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of The Gardens of Green Ridge for the kind, compassionate and dedicated care they afforded to Kay during her time living at the Gardens.

Surviving are cousins including Colleen Burke Lutchko and family, James and Helen Douglass and family, Loscombe, Pusateri, O’Hara, Ford, Smith and Burke families.

She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings Loretta in 1982, Evelyn in 2002, Joseph in 2012 and Ann Regina in 2013.

All attending are respectfully asked to wear masks.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton by Rev. Patrick McLaughlin, pastor.

Friends may call morning from 9am until time of Mass in the church.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton, PA 18510 or to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter 967 Griffin Pond Rd. South Abington Twp., PA 18411
