Jeanne Devers

Jeanne Devers, RN, Sparta, New Jersey, passed away Tuesday at home surrounded by her family after a short illness.  She was the widow of Patrick Devers who died in 2016.   The couple had been married for 57 years at the time of Patrick’s passing.

Born 1935 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Alice Mullaney Manley and was a 1952 graduate of Scranton Central High School, attended Marywood College and graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1955.  She worked as a registered nurse in both Pennsylvania and New York for many years.

Also surviving are a daughter Kathy Mayer of Sparta, New Jersey; a son Kevin Devers and his wife Joanne of Manorville, New York;  daughter in law Olga Devers of West Islip, New York; grandchildren Daniel, Matthew and Emily Mayer and Kristina and Alyssa Devers;  a sister in law Mary Devers of Scranton; her dedicated and loving caregiver Kim Smurl and her daughter Morgan who referred to Jeanne as Grandma Jeanne; nieces and nephews; many life long friends   

She was also preceded in death by her son Sean Devers in 2012;  son in law Michael Mayer in 2021; sister Marilyn M. Duffy;  Devers brothers and sisters in law; her loving companion poodle, Molly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. by Rev. Patrick McLaughlin, pastor.

Friends may call Monday morning from 10am until time of Mass at the church.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Jeanne would ask people to be more kind to those in need.
