Marlene Smigiel

Marlene Smigiel, 77; Old Forge, passed away Sunday in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was the widow of John Smigiel who passed away in 2018.She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline Ciliberto. 


Born in Jenkins Twp and lifelong resident of Old Forge, Pa. She loved her Lawrenceville Section of Old Forge. She was employed for many years at Dempsey Laundry. 


You could always find Marlene in front of the TV watching her beloved NY Yankees, or at the SWB Rail Riders games all Season. She loved to dance and talk about “Stacey and Edwin’s band”, Picture Perfect. Her family was the center of her life. 


Surviving are her daughter, Stacey Ann and her husband Edwin Velez of Scranton; her son, Brian Smigiel of Old Forge; and grandchildren, Gina and Mia Velez. Sister; Joann Menichello, and husband Frank, Horsham, Pa Brother; Tony Ciliberto and his wife Ginny, Long Neck DE.


The family would like to thank Dr. Kristine Kelley, Dr. Michael Gilhooley and Dr. Kishori for their many years of compassion and care. 


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in the Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church 316 William Street Scranton, PA 18508.


Friends may call Thursday morning from 9am until the time of the Mass in the church.


Interment, Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Koman Foundation.
