Virginia Chakiris

Virginia Chakiris, 96, Scranton, passed away early Sunday morning in the Green Ridge Care Center after an illness.   She was the widow of Henry Chakiris who passed away in 1995.

Born August 20, 1927, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Conrad and Lois Slocum Mayer.  She was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School.  She was a member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church.  She had been a member of the Irem Temple Shrine Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her son David Chakiris and his wife Jane of Dickson City; grandchildren Christian and Carolyn Chakiris.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Green Ridge Care Center for the compassionate and excellent care shown to Virginia in her time of need.

Funeral services and interment will be held private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
