Cathy Renda, Greenridge, passed away Friday afternoon in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit after an illness with her family by her side. She was the widow of George Renda who passed away in December 1979.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius and Grace Higgins Lavelle. Cathy was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School and a member of St. Paul Parish. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Lackawanna County supporting the employees in the Human Resources department.
Cathy was the kindest and sweetest person in the world. Growing up as a part of a large family served as her foundation of always put others first. This was evident in how she raised her son and the sacrifices she made to provide for him. She adored her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at both the Scranton Health Care Center and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit for the compassionate care they gave to Cathy.
Surviving are her son F. Stuart Renda and his wife Liz of Scranton; sisters Ann Trapper, Ellen (Peter) Dunford; brothers James (Anne) Lavelle, Timothy Lavelle, Joe (Gwyn) Lavelle, Gerard (Cathy) Drake-Lavelle, Mark (Mariclare) Lavelle; her beloved grandchildren Caroline and PJ Renda; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by sister Mary Grace MacDonald and brother-in-law Donald MacDonald.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 am St Paul’s Church 1510 Penn Ave. Scrantonby Msgr. Neil J. Van Loon, pastor.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 10am until the time of Mass at the church.
Interment, private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made in Cathy’s memory to St. Joseph’s Center 2010 Adams Ave Scranton, PA 18509.
