Carolyn Ann Lavelle

Carolyn Ann Lavelle of Dunmore, PA, died on Christmas Day, December 25th, at the Bridge at Elan in Scranton, PA.  She was 80 years old.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Thomas and Jean Burkavitch Lavelle, Carolyn attended St. Patrick’s grade and high schools in Scranton before graduating from Marywood College with a degree in psychology. Carolyn had a long and distinguished career as a social worker in the greater Harrisburg region for 40 years and touched countless lives with her love and compassion.

She is survived by her spouse, Mary Jean Moran, and two step-sons, Richard Naughton of New York City and Anthony Naughton (Brianna) of Princeton, NJ, and step-grandsons, Liam and Tagg Naughton. She is also survived by one brother, Tom Lavelle, of Glendale, California, and cousin, Bernice Colangelo, of Dunmore. Carolyn also cherished the time she had with her beloved dogs, Jesse, Mandy, Blue, and Heidi.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Bridge at Elan for their dedicated care of Carolyn during the past year. In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of her life will be observed on Saturday, January 4th, at 11am at the Vanston and James Funeral Home on the corner of Ash Street and North Irving Avenue in Scranton. Friends are asked to go directly there starting at 10am to pay respects. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carolyn’s honor to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
