Brian J. Miles, a lifelong resident of the Hill Section of Scranton left this earth on Saturday. If there is ever such a thing as a perfect ending to someone’s life, it was his. He was surrounded with tons of love, laughter, smiles, and heart to heart hugs from the Miles tribe.
Brian was the baby of the family of the late George W. and Claire King Miles.
To say that Brian had a strong work ethic is an understatement.
From delivering the newspaper as a kid, to cutting grass, if Brian was doing it, it was done right. A graduate from the former Scranton Technical High School, Brian went on to graduate from Johnson College with a degree in Biomedical Technology, all while working full-time. He spent the last 35 years of his life working at Allied Services, Scranton. He started his career as a warehouse supervisor for their medical equipment store, and later as a Biomed Technician, in their Biomedical Technology Department. Dedicated and hard-working Brian gave 110% and then some every time he walked into work.
As a kid in the Hill Section, Nay Aug Park was his stomping grounds, always saying he knew every inch of the park. He enjoyed running into childhood friends, Luke, John and Donna, Gene, Ron, Phil, and so many more at the corners (if you’re from the Hill you know), laughing and reminiscing about their time at the basin, killer, bums well.
A fisherman in his younger days, he enjoyed fishing the Roaring Brook, and going Salmon fishing with his friend Lee.
A true competitor, whether it was on the pool table, playing for the Scranton Pool league, shooting darts, or on the golf course, anyone that played with him knew they had to play their best. An avid golfer his entire life, he played on many of the courses throughout the area. He enjoyed playing on Sundays with the guys at Marjon golf course, but he loved playing golf with his brother and best friend Jim. They were the ideal team. Brian’s proud moment was when he scored a hole in-one when playing on Allied Services golf League, at Summit Hills Golf Course.
Another proud moment was when his daughter earned her CNA and began her career providing care and comfort to those in Allied Services Skilled Nursing.
It wasn’t until he met his sweetheart of over 25 years Alison that he found enjoyment in the simpler things in life. Riding his Harley Davidson Sportster, rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football teams, walking on the beach, watching the sun set from the deck, looking at the stars and moon, or waiting in the early morning hours for a meteor shower. Sitting around the fire pit in the backyard listening to the music of youth till all hours, he would remark this is perfect. These simple things brought him the most peace. However, he did take enjoyment in beating her on the pool table or at the dart board.
This was Brian’s short life. Well lived and well loved.
Those of us waiting to see his smile and hear his hearty laugh are: Alison, daughter Jennifer Miles and partner Michael Watts, Old Forge, Brother James Miles, Clarks Summit, Sister Karen Lewis, Dunmore, Sister in law Janice Cordier, Scranton, many Nieces, Nephew, and Great Nieces and Nephews, former wife Deborah Mecca and husband Robert, Old Forge, along with many Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Brother John Miles and Sister Judith Chobey.

Brian and I palled around together with Eddie Osborne, Kim Gallagher, and Barbara Fratzola while attending JJ Audubon elementary school. While we lost touch, I have fond memories of Brian. We lost a good one. Condolences to his family. – Lisa Shewack Thurston
