Idamae Henwood, 86, Sterling, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday March 14th after being stricken ill while on vacation in South Carolina. Her devoted and loving husband of 68 years is Rev. William J. Henwood.
Born 1938, in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Gerald R. and Margaret Lochie Swingle and was a graduate of the former Lake Consolidated School, Lake Ariel. A woman of deep faith, Idamae ministered alongside her husband to those looking for the Lord. She was an active and devoted member of the Jericho Independent Church, Sterling. Prior to her retirement, Idamae worked for many years for the Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Company as a department head.
Idamae was a kind, caring and faithful woman.
Also surviving are her daughter Cindy Mehs and her husband Michael of Buffalo; sons William Henwood, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Sterling, Bruce Henwood and his wife Martha of Greentown, and Bradley Henwood and his wife Carrieann of Jefferson Twp; brother Gerald Swingle Jr. of Lake Ariel; sisters Marion Rose and her husband Carl of Lake Ariel and Bonnie Wiley and her husband Rev. John of Pennsburg, PA.; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson Preston James Henwood in 2017 and beloved great granddaughter Lilijanna Rose Podunajec in 2021.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Noon in the Jericho Independent Church 289 Sterling Rd. Newfoundland, PA. 18445. Services will be officiated by Rev. Rev. John Wiley, brother in law.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 10am until the time of the service in the church.
Interment, private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers it is Idamae’s desire that memorial contributions be made to her beloved church The Jericho independent Church 289 Sterling Rd. Newfoundland, PA. 18445 so they may further the missions of Gideon’s Bible International and the Child Evangelism Fellowship. Both of these organizations were near and dear to Idamae’s heart.
The family would like to invite everyone to join them in the fellowship hall of the church to share in a meal.
Immediately following the service at the church the family will escort Idamae to the cemetery.
They ask that you remain at the church and enjoy a cup of coffee and wait for their return to the church to begin the meal.
